60 Years !

Serving Phoenix for nearly seventy years!

Meet Stan Zawatski. Stan started working at Cheese 'n Stuff when he was just a teen. Here he is, many years later, and now he has all the responsibility that his father had, and his grandfather before that.

Cheese n Stuff opened its doors in 1949.
Also happening around that time:

  • The tape recorder was invented
  • President Harry Truman desegregates the US Army, and urges a Civil Rights program for the United States
  • The Sound Barrier was broken
  • American Broadcasting Company (ABC) TV network debuts
  • "William Tell" French opera by Gioachino Rossini premieres in Salle Le Peletier, Paris
  • First "stored" computer program is run
  • The first transistor is used in place of a tube
  • Alcoholic Anonymous founded in Britain
  • The 45 RPM record was introduced by RCA Records
  • East Germany was founded.  12 years later The Wall would appear practically overnight.  It would stand for 28 years.
  • The CIA was founded.
  • "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer" appears on music charts
  • Dragnet first airs on the radio.
  • Apartheid begins in South Africa
  • Cheese 'n Stuff served its first Reuben.  62 years later, it would serve its 1,000,000th sandwich to C.J. Hassett.

Have fun reviewing some of the photos from years gone by. Stop by to say "HI" to Stan, and to his daughters that may someday be here to serve your children and your grandchildren.
